Future Proofing for the Digital World

Future Proofing for the Digital World

She may not be a digital native, but that’s not stopping Tiaina Wongchiu from beefing up her computer skills.

For the past 34 years Tiaina has been a valued employee of The Comfort Group, Australasia’s largest mattress and foam manufacturer. And when she was recently offered the chance to upskill on computers, she jumped at it. Since attending a Future Ready – Life Online course with Education Unlimited, Tiaina’s digital confidence has flourished. A dedicated member of the fabrication team, she’s now equipped to help out with additional tasks like making online bookings, doing orders and printing labels.

“I’m very happy that I’ve learnt these things about computers,” says Tiaina. “I now know how to create and receive emails, download, upload and I’ve also learnt how to be safe online. Security is important because there are a lot of online scams these days.”

Half Chinese and born in Samoa, Tiaina’s technological skills have come a long way. In fact her transformation from digital rookie to dab hand is nothing short of inspirational.

“Back when I was at school I never even saw a computer in the classroom!” Yet now, thanks to Education Unlimited’s expert trainers, and a quality programme that’s engaging and interactive, Tiaina feels confident – and competent – when navigating the online world.

By giving their employees the chance to upskill, The Comfort Group is future proofing their workforce and strengthening their business. But it’s not just the workplace that’s reaping the benefits. Tiaina’s family is too.

“Now I know how to communicate with my family online. We use Zoom, have group chats, email each other and keep in touch on Facebook.”

The upsides of upskilling are vast and far reaching, and now that Tiaina has taken that first step she’s excited for more.

“It’s very hard for someone to learn if they’ve never been on a computer, and I’m very thankful to have had the opportunity to attend this course. Now I’d like the company to give us even more courses and time so that we can continue our learning.”
