After 17 years at The Warehouse Group Maria has worked her way up supervisor, and thanks to the skills she learnt at Education Unlimited’s 1:1 English Know How training course, she’s smashing it in the workplace.
“I’m now more confident in my speaking, listening and writing and my emails are getting better,” says Maria. “The strategies my trainer June has given me work really well and I try things she suggests to help manage myself. I’m now working well with a new laptop, I use an iPad for my meeting notes and my computer or laptop for emails; this is much better for my English support. I’m also more confident speaking with other managers and supervisors and writing on the board. It has all improved!”
Maria now helps others to use digital devices and recently assisted some of the team to join the ‘Warehouse Workplace’.
“I’ve had to learn new language, particularly the meanings of words for my job. If I don’t know, my manager helps, I ask my children at home, or I look the word up to see what it means. It’s great working for the Warehouse, I feel looked after. Training that I do gives me credits on my NZQA. My manager supports me every day and is always happy to show me how to do something.”
Maria’s manager Louise Roose Butcher and is “over the moon with her progress” and Education Unlimited trainer June Brunton couldn’t be prouder.
Says June: “Maria considers herself to be a business woman and loves being involved in her work. She also wants to ensure her children complete their education and have the opportunities she has had so far.”
We can’t wait to see what Maria achieves next as she continues to grow and thrive, not just in her role at The Warehouse Group, but in all aspects of her life.
